About the Job My client's technical team keeps them at the forefront of the market by constantly enhancing their leading-edge search engine with new functionality, and refining the user experience they deliver on their site. As a Linux Support Developer, you will be the ‘gatekeeper’ of their production Linux environment & lead a small technical support team with responsibility for bug fixing and the development of service enhancements to their Linux applications. You will work closely with testers, and web & database developers to ensure that the integrity of the Linux production service is maintained as new code releases are promoted. Responsibilities My client expect you to: • Transform their Linux environment into a world class service through the introduction of robust release management, monitoring & maintenance processes. • Provide technical mentoring & leadership to colleagues in the Linux support team. • Provide support to ensure the integrity and quality of the Linux applications & environment through: o Investigating and diagnosing the causes of production problems that affect the delivery of their Linux services. o Developing solutions to fix identified bugs. • Take business requirements for Linux system enhancements, and produce: o Technical solution designs o Technical specifications o Estimates & schedules for solution delivery • Advise on new features, architectural components, and software infrastructure, particularly WRT open source environments. About you My client are looking for someone with significant experience of developing industry-strength, applications within open-source environments & providing System Administration & Release Management services on Linux platforms. They also highly value experience of: • Python • XPath • Regular expressions • Web scraping • Fedora Linux • RPM packaging • SQL • XML • XSLT Understanding of common web infrastructure, including: • HTTP • Cookies & maintenance of session state • AJAX • JSON • Robot detection and avoidance • Web click tracking My client are passionate about building high-quality, high-performance systems that delight their users.
